Game publisher EA hit the twitterverse the other day to release a new video titled “Last Call” from game designer Epic Games’ new game, Bulletstorm. The video is a spoof of the Halo 3 ad titled “Believe,” using action figures a la Robot Chicken to show characters from the game.
At first I thought Epic was being tongue-in-cheek, poking fun at the ads they had made for the Gears of War games. Which I thought was weird since they have one more game to go. Then I realized that I’ve seen that advertising style before, in Halo. Now if they were making fun of Halo with a Gears ad it would make sense. They are both Microsoft Game Studio published games and Xbox exclusives, however Bulletstorm is being released by EA for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. I wonder what Microsoft thinks of all this? Both videos are embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
After the action figure portion we are treated to some gameplay footage. To me it looks very Unreal Tournament, which isn’t surprising since it’s the same developers. I think the video gets across what it’s supposed to; in a world where first-person-shooter games take themselves a little too seriously, Bulletstorm wants to be fun. If done right it could be a really entertaining game, especially if it doesn’t have the same matchmaking issues as the Gears of War games.
Bulletstorm is released on February 22 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Some pre-orders, while supplies last, will get into the Gears of War 3 beta.
