Seen The New Captain America Photo? Here’s What I See

Captain Super ProA lot of people reserve their criticism towards comic book super-hero movies on the basis of “at least they are getting made” — to which I wholeheartedly reject.

Case in point: the forthcoming Captain America film, which features a costume that looks radically different than the comic book version because it “translates” better to the big screen (Read: Take A Look: Best Shot Of Chris Evans As Captain America Yet!).

I realize this could be due in part to the time period that the film is based in (1940s) and that a modernized version could pop up when we see Captain America in The Avengers film.

But honestly, this is the first thing that came to my mind after seeing the high resolution images Marvel release yesterday (Click the image thumbnail).

For those who have no idea who “Super Pro” is, he was a football super-hero that was officially licensed by the NFL. Marvel printed at least eight issues of the series. It was one of the darker periods during the early 90s that everyone tries to forget ever happened.

So there you go, movie Captain America is basically Super Pro with more stars and less yellow.

  1. I think the movie suit is great. It will look good next to Iron Man, Thor, Widow, and the rest. Thankfully, the general public never saw this SuperPro, so it’s safe to assume this won’t be compared on a mainstream level.

  2. Superpro was a brilliant and inspired hero, whose stories were tragically cut short. He was as fantastic as TeamUSA the stunt riding team that brought forth a combined mental gestalt superhero. Seriously.

The 70’s version of Cap was worse.

Least this is based on the Ultimates universe.

  3. Hah! You’re right! It totally does look like Super Pro!

It looks even more like Mark Millar & Bryan Hitch’s Ultimate version of Cap, though. Google it! It’s actually quite accurate.

  4. My thoughts exactly. This is very accurate when comparing it to the “Ultimatized” version of Cap by Messrs. Millar and Hitch.

  5. Ya’know, I think we were all a bit miffed by the first images of Spider Man as well as some early Iron man pics. Let’s see how well the plot and the acting hold up before rating it all on early release photos.

  6. Oh, you are spot on with the Super Pro reference. 8 issues? I think I gave up after #2.

  7. @roinfish Yes. x1000

  9. YES! Super Pro reference, somewhere in a closet or attic I have all of the issues.
