Former KISS Drummer Peter Criss To Finally Release Long-Awaited Autobiography

Original KISS drummer, Peter Criss, has announced that his long-awaited autobiography will be published in late 2012. Under the working title of Makeup to Breakup, the memoir is said to encompass not only the highs and lows of his time with KISS, but also his upbringing and life post-KISS.

Criss first announced his plans for an autobiography back in 1987 in interviews with KISS fanzines around the world. Since that time, little progress has been made with each subsequent time the Catman has discussed the book… however, with this announcement, Criss has got himself a publisher backing the memoir: Scribner.

The Simon and Schuster imprint will publish Makeup to Breakup during Fall 2012, and it will be written with the assistance of Larry “Ratso” Sloman, who is best known for his work on Howard Stern’s books.

During the early 1970s, Peter Criss joined Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and eventually Ace Frehley to form KISS. The band released their first album in 1973, and Criss stayed with the band up until 1980, becoming known for his performance on songs such as “Beth” and “Hard Luck Woman,” as well as his drum solos during the live performances of “God of Thunder.”

He left the band following a difficult time dealing with drug addiction, and eventually released albums during his solo career and as a part of the band Criss. He rejoined KISS in 1996 for the Reunion Tour, but is no longer with the band, focusing on his solo career instead. Peter Criss recently received a lot of media coverage when it was revealed he had been suffering from, and successfully beat, breast cancer — an affliction that also affects men.

In addition to the publication of his autobiography, Criss is also working on his next solo album. The album is currently untitled and there are no details or speculation as to when the album will be released.

  1. Hopefully, the album won’t take as long as the book. Richie Scarlet announced a FEW YEARS AGO that he’s playing bass on it.
