Charlize Theron Latest To Join Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’; Michael Fassbender Talks ‘Alien’ Connection
  |  @   |

The biggest name so far to be cast in Ridley Scott‘s maybe-possibly Alien prequel, Prometheus, has been officially announced.

Reports are that Charlize Theron, who’s name has been one of many wanted for a role in the movie, has joined the cast in what’s assumed will be the female lead. Theron won an Oscar for her role in Monster, and is known for her work on films like The Devil’s Advocate, The Cider House Rules, The Italian Job, North Country, Æon Flux, and Hancock.

Theron joins a small-yet-growing cast that includes Michael Fassbender, who has starred in movies like 300, Inglourious Basterds, Centurion, and the upcoming X-Men: First Class (watch the trailer here), as well as Noomi Rapace, who appeared in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its Millennium Trilogy.

Fassbender also spoke to MTV recently and talked about the movie’s ties to Alien, and what drew him to the script.

Oh, absolutely. There’s a definite connecting vein. You realize you’re part of something else, but it’s definitely in keeping with the old ones.”

When I read it, I was like, ‘Well, okay, another Alien. Where do you go with this idea?’ And then I sort of read the script, and it’s new, yet it’s in keeping with the old traditions as well. But there’s a whole new revelation within this film.

The first ‘Alien’ [movies], they were thrillers. Something’s going on. It’s creeping, it’s sinister. Things are happening, it’s building, [and there are] different sorts of intrigues and politics going on between the different relationships on board.

There’s action in it, but the intelligence is what struck me when I read it. It’s more sort of like the original ones. There are things happening and building, and the intelligence of the first two-thirds of the film gets you ready for the action.

Scott will direct the sci-fi movie from a script written by Lost writer/producer and Star Trek writer Damon Lindelof.
