The Future Of The Fantastic Four
  |

If you’re a fan of the Marvel universe, then you’re probably already aware of the big news in the world of the Fantastic Four: In Fantastic Four #587, which was released on January 25, one of the four died.

Now, another superhero has stepped in to join the team, which has been renamed and recostumed, and will debut in a new series simply called FF by Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting.

Continuing reading to find out who’s a part of this new superhero match-up and to see an image of the new team in their new costumes.

And obviously… SPOILERS…

With the recent death of the Human Torch the Fantastic Four are no more. The remaining members — Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and the Thing — are determined to continue fighting the good fight, only now they have knowledge of what’s to come and they will form a new team called The Future Foundation. This team will, along with the surviving members of the Fantastic Four, also feature Spider-Man and some other as yet unannounced Marvel Universe heavyweights. It all starts in March with the giant-sized FF #1.

“FF will alter the very fabric of the Marvel Universe,” explained Tom Brevoort, Senior Vice President of Publishing. “Jonathan and Steve have crafted a unique, powerful new series that’s going to surprise a lot of fans with its combination of mind-blowing ideas and visuals.”

Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting will be crafting this new arc for the remaining Fantastic Four. Hickman has done solid work with the Fantastic Four and most recently a run on Ultimate Comics Thor. It’s unclear just how different this new team will be than the Avengers, but we have to trust that Hickman knows what he’s doing. Marvel also hasn’t dropped any hints as to what villains this new team will face either. I

In the image you can see the new costumes for the team. I’m not a fan but the clothes don’t make the man in this case. What do you think? Will you be reading FF?

FF #1 will be released on March 23, 2011; Fantastic Four #588, the final issue of that series, arrives on February 23, 2011.

  1. They were kind of in a hurry to change their outfits into these Siegfried and Roy getups, weren’t they?

I think killing comic book characters is the last refuge of the creatively bankrupt. It’s funny that Lee and Kirby’s run is still the best era of the FF and no one had to die to make it memorable.

I will not be reading this, no. What’s more, I will not be starting again when Johnny comes limping home again.

  3. Not a first. She-Hulk and Herbie the Robot (remember it?) were members for a while. Sub-Mariner was a quasi-member. And since Jean Grey isn’t dead (Remember Jim Shooter’s assurance on that?)this is really no big deal. The industry apparently ran out of ideas and the courage to take risks a long time ago.
