The 83nd Annual Academy Award Winners
  |  @   |

At the 83rd Annual Academy Awards tonight, The Kings Speech, which lead the pack with 12 nominations, tied for most wins with Inception, both nabbing 4 awards each.

While Inception snagged mainly technical awards (sound, visual effects, and cinematography), The Kings Speech won the big prize — Best Picture — along with a Best Actor statue for star Colin Firth, Best Director for Tom Hooper, and Best Original Screenplay for David Seidler.

Coming in third for most wins was The Social Network, which most notably grabbed the Oscar for Best Original Score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

While True Grit had a whopping 10 nominations, it scored no wins tonight, while The Fighter won two awards and Black Swan just one — Natalie Portman for Best Actress.

Some standout moments of the evening were The Fighter‘s Melissa Leo dropping Oscar’s very first F-bomb during her Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech; Leo’s co-star Christian Bale making a joke about how he’s dropped the F-bomb plenty of times before; director Tom Hooper’s thanking his mom for leading him to The King’s Speech; the unexpected yet hilarious presentation by actor Kirk Douglas; filmmaker Luke Matheny‘s win for Best Live-Action Short Film for God of Love; and Charles Ferguson, who kept it real during his win for Best Documentary Feature for Inside Job. Shout out to my fellow New Yorkers, the kids from P.S. 22 on Staten Island, who closed out the ceremony with a rendition of “Over The Rainbow” while the evening’s Oscar winners took the stage.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards was broadcast live this evening on ABC from Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre with hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who, in lieu of a song and dance number, opened the ceremony with a movie montage where the actors were humorously inserted into this year’s Best Picture nominees. While Hathaway seemed a natural for the position, Franco was quite stiff.
