Is This Video Of A Man Hacking The Screens Of New York City’s Time Square With An iPhone Fake?

An interesting video is making its way around the ‘net, and we want to hear your opinions on its legitimacy.
The video in question shows a man with a very cool trick. He’s created a little transmitter device that plugs into his iPhone, and when a second device is held near a video screen it automatically takes over the screen with the video playing on the phone. To prove this, he starts by recording a little video of himself shot by a friend in New York City’s Time Square of all places (where better to show off such a thing?) and then goes to prove it works.
So has this guy created something incredible, or is the entire thing a complete joke? Be sure to click on over to the other side now and see the video for yourself!
The first stop they make is a small screen where they play the video while the gizmo’s creator holds the second device right next to the video that’s currently playing. Sure as sure can be, with a dance and a flicker the signal takes over and the man has appeared for all to see. Next up they move to a larger split-screen setup and once again, his video takes over. For the man’s grand finale, he comes out of a store with a giant helium balloon and a long string, attaches his device, and slowly raises the balloon up to one of the giant screens of Time Square. As you’ve likely guessed, yes, this worked too.

I’d like to believe it’s real! It looks so awesome, I want one of those devices, hell I want 10 of them!!
But my question is… if it’s fake, how the heck did he pull it off? What is he doing to make it fake? Is he editing effects over top to make the screens look like they were showing the video? Because it looks fairly legit, but I don’t really know how else he could pull this off as a fake. Any idea?

I very much want this to be real. Watching it, I started having Deja Vu-type flashes to the coming days of Max Headroom.

It’s fake. If you watch the video around :34, you can see another monitor down the street. It’s playing the same video of the speaker.

It’s plugged into the simple 3-conductor *AUDIO* port of the iPhone?
(Not even the bottom edge-connector.)
