WonderCon 2011 Video: Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern, Flash & Deadpool Movies

Star of the upcoming Green Lantern film Ryan Reynolds said he was pretty damn impressed with the footage showed off at this year’s WonderCon after being in a skin tight blue suit that didn’t breath well in Louisiana. It was a fun panel filled with lots of banter between Reynolds and the audience. He joked with the fans about reading Green Lantern comics for inspiration, saying if he hadn’t at this point the fans would have run him out of the convention center in an angry mob — and then seemed disappointed that the crowd was slow to chant the Green Lantern oath with him, stopping midway through to reveal that the “front row just bombed it.”

“I was going to come out here and tell everyone I was cast a the lead in a new Flash movie since it’s April Fools Day,” Reynolds said, adding that he’d likely “be systematically murdered” if he played another super-character. And since he wouldn’t be playing Barry Allen, he suggested the role for Bradley Cooper, which got a mixed reaction from the crowd.

Reynolds did seem open to the idea of reprising his role in a Justice League movie, but deferred commenting about the possible film to panel moderator Geoff Johns, who confirmed that a JLA movie was in development.

Inevitably there were plenty of questions regarding the possible Deadpool movie, including one about who would win in a fight between Green Lantern and the merc with a mouth.

“Let’s be clear on one thing. Deadpool is not a villain, he’s an asshole,” Reynolds said. “But seriously, why would you ask me that? Did I piss in your Corn Flakes? I’m going to choose Green Lantern at this moment.”

Reynolds tried to wrap things up by saying if a Deadpool movie does end up happening it would be done exactly the right way with a “hard R” rating.

Check out video of the panels embedded below for more discussion of the film as well as Blake Lively‘s interests in playing Star Sapphire in future sequels.

  1. I think he was the right choice for the part. Hope the movie is what it should be, or enjoyable at the very least.

I am also excited with his comments about a Deadpool movie and how is talking as it is still happening with him as Deadpool. Sure, they totally nerfed the character in the Wolverine film, but that wasn’t his fault. Hope it still has a shot at getting made.

  2. Yeah, I think he’ll end up adding more to the film than taking away despite being a mix of Hal and Guy. He totally called out Fox’s producers for screwing with Deadpool if you watch the panel videos. (Thanks for the comment sir!)
