Real Or Fake: Gamer Takes On 4 ‘Super Mario’ Speedruns At Once
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

Speedruns are an impressive feat. They involve taking classic video games — games that are worlds harder than today’s fare, with a restricted number of lives to deal with and so on — and sprinting through as fast as possible in an attempt to beat it in record time.

One of the more popular games to speedrun is of course Super Mario Bros.. With hidden secrets tucked away, those knowledgeable enough can make their way through in shocking times. But one gamer decided he wanted to try and outdo even the best speedrunners…by playing multiple titles at the same time.

The player, known on YouTube as agwawaf, set up not only Mario Bros. but also Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and even Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and then beat them all together. But is it a real accomplishment or are we being fooled?

Continue on below now to see the video for yourself and share your thoughts on how he did it or how legit it might be.

Now, I have my reservations here. It’s fully admitted that he did not play all four games straight through at the exact same time. Apparently he had some sort of emulator that slowed gameplay down and all four games linked to one special controller, allowing him to play through a little more carefully and then edit the videos together after the fact.

Even so, if you look very closely there’s many moments where he hits enemies and doesn’t die (mostly in the first Super Mario). Just grazing one of them has caused all of us to die every single time we’ve played over the years, leading to eternal frustrations. So to see him ninja his way along while rubbing shoulders with some baddies without a death…seemed fishy to me. I could be wrong; no one else seems to think this is a problem so perhaps I’ve just not played in far too long. The main question has to be just how much this emulator slowed the game down; without knowing that it’s hard to say how awesome the video is.

So now you can watch the video and tell me what you think. Insanely impressive accomplishment or a little too questionable to accept the validity?
