So Marvel’s big Summer event Fear Itself is underway and it’s blowing up all over the Marvel Universe. We’ve got early looks at some of the biggest issues this Summer.
It all starts in May when Fear Itself #2 of 7 hits store shelves. Award-winning writer Matt Fraction and artist Stuart Immonen continue the mystery of who the Worthy are. Seven hammers have fallen to Earth each capable of seemingly endless power. The race is on to see who the Worthy will be and without the Asgardians who have left Earth, will the Avengers be able to save the day? Covers for this installment if the series were done by Steve McNiven and variant by Stuart Immonen. Early images from Fear Itself #2 and previews for other Fear Itself releases are waiting for you after the jump.
In July Fear Itself hits the shores of Utopia in Uncanny X-Men #540 & #541. Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Greg Land bring fear to the unsteady balance between humans and mutant-kind.
“After the tight, claustrophobic Breaking Point, I wanted something that embraced the epic scale inherent in the modern/mythological world war of Fear Itself. It’s a disaster movie where the natural threat is the supernatural powerhouse,” explains writer Kieron Gillen. “The whole story’s built like a bomb, with each step of the Serpent’s Worthy is like another tick on the clock. “What can stop the Worthy?” is the question, and as the answer starts to become apparent, that’s when the terror starts to bite. A city, waiting to be hit, with nothing they can do to stop it.”
Both issues of Uncanny X-Men will ship in July.
Also in July, Fear Itself collides head on with the unstoppable force that is Red Hulk in Red Hulk #37! Writer Jeff Parker and artist Elena Casagrande ask the question of which is stronger: all out rage or mortal terror?
“Red Hulk’s intersection with Fear Itself is really a defining moment for the character, showing what he’s made of. It’s really cool to be right up front during a happening like this!” said Parker. “It also gives us the chance to show what goes on with the other world threats who aren’t commanding the center stage during a crucial event – in this case the newly returned M.O.D.O.K.!”
Finally Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato bring Fear Itself to the New Avengers in New Avengers #14. In the story, Bendis brings every active Avenger and even a few new recruits into an all-out battle with the God of Fear. Bendis warns that “The New Avengers will be pushed to the limit by the madness of Fear Itself, to the point where the team will need to redefine itself if it is to survive.”
New Avengers #14 hits shelves in July.
Sounds like July will be a crazy month for readers following this epic event!
