Watch Now: Another New Behind The Scenes Look At ‘Doctor Who’ Series 6!

The BBC and BBC America are pulling no punches when it comes to promoting the upcoming Series 6 of Doctor Who. Less than a day after the BBC released two preview clips from opening episode The Impossible Astronaut, BBC America has released a neat Behind The Scenes video that gives some fantastic snippets and clips from the same episode, and its concluding second part, Day of the Moon. You can check out this awesome Doctor Who Insider at the bottom of this post.

In the video, Steven Moffat highlights his intentions behind “bringing Doctor Who to America” (or is it “bringing America to Doctor Who“?) and director Toby Haynes discusses how different this episode will feel for Doctor Who; while cast members Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill talk about the amazing fun they had while filming — giving references to other films that they (and we) all love such as Indiana Jones and Back to the Future.

What’s cool about the video is that it provides some additional snippets and clips from the first two episodes, giving Doctor Who fans another little glimpse at the feel of the episode. Mark Sheppard, who plays Canton Everett Delaware III in the episodes, has a brilliant line in the footage: “America is being invaded!”

Sheppard’s lines are with reference to the new villains of the season, called The Silents, who were/are/will be a keen motivating force behind the “Pandorica,” “Silence/Silents Will Fall,” and “Cracks in the Universe” memes that were dominant in the main story arc last season. In Series 6, the mystery deepens as the Doctor and his companions work to find out why the Silents tried to destroy the TARDIS, as seen in The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang at the close of Series 5.

The two episodes will focus on an impossible astronaut suit, which seems to act as a prison or containment unit for the most unlikely person to wear — designed or orchestrated by the Silents that will have dire consequences for The Doctor. The explosive opening episodes have been promised to answer many questions for fans — but also seems that it will see rise to new unanswered questions, something showrunner Steven Moffat seems very talented at being able to do.

The first episode of Doctor Who Series 6, The Impossible Astronaut, will air on the BBC and BBC America on April 23. Written by Moffat and directed by Haynes, it sees the main cast reprising their roles as The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, and Rory Williams — as well as featuring the return of Alex Kingston acting as River Song. Geeks of Doom’s Doctor Who podcast, the TARDISblend, will also be doing weekly reviews of each episode, kicking off on the April 23 launch day, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

In the meantime, check out BBC America’s latest Behind-The-Scenes clip…
