It’s a big week for BBC America. Not only is the hype running fast and loud for the upcoming season of Doctor Who launching this weekend, but the channel made the official announcement yesterday that they have acquired a fan-favorite series, the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. BBC America has signed a deal with NBC Universal to air the two-part miniseries that launched in 2004, as well as Seasons 1 through 4.

The reimagined series, which had its initial run on the Syfy Channel from 2003 to 2009, was executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick and starred Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park and British actor Jamie Bamber.

Battlestar Galactica is the gripping saga of humanity’s last remnants and their struggle to find a new home while fleeing from their deadly Cylon enemies. Redefining the space opera with its gritty realism, Galactica’s intensity, issues-driven topicality, and command performances have garnered it numerous awards and critical-acclaim. The show originally aired on Syfy from 2003 to 2009 and was recognized two years in a row by the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of the most outstanding programs of the year.

Battlestar Galactica will begin airing on BBC America from Saturday, June 18, 2011, which will be part of their “Supernatural Saturday” line-up, which also includes the new season of Doctor Who, as well as the UK original series Being Human (starting Spring 2012), Outcasts (June 18 at (9pm ET/PT), and Bedlam (October 8 at 9pm ET/PT)

  1. Oh no. The BBC will turn amazing SCI FI TV into Doctor Poo. I know lots of people here love the Dr Who show but I’m a vicious opponent of the BBC’s terribly acted and produced ‘drama’. Battlestar was how SCI FI for TV should be done. BBC, t****.

  2. BBC America has only acquired the rights to the shows the reruns of BSG; you moron, they’re not producing a new series. And you have no idea what you’re talking about when you bash the best science-fiction show currently on the air. I don’t imagine you have the sophistication to appreciate something like Doctor Who, Jersey Shore is probably more your speed, loser.
