NBC Does Us All A Favor, Kills Off ‘Wonder Woman’ Before It Even Starts
  |  @   |

NBC has been known for producing some pretty unwatchable shows in the past — the later seasons of Heroes and The Cape jump to mind — but even they see things for what they are before it’s too late on occasion.

It’s being reported that NBC has chosen to pass up on the Wonder Woman TV series they once saved from death. After many attempts to make the heroine into a movie, Warner Brothers decided to try the TV format. At one point it looked like no one would even touch the show, which was being developed by David E. Kelley, but then rose NBC, out of the shadows to pay some major coin to give Wonder Woman her shot.

Much work was done to prepare a pilot, which was filmed and delivered to what was said to be some “positive reactions,” but when it came down to choosing their fall lineup, NBC decided the show just wasn’t worth putting more money into.

It’s fair to assume that after their disastrous experiences with the aforementioned Heroes and The Cape, NBC is slowly beginning to learn their lesson, but is that they only reason they came to this decision? Let’s not forget that blindingly bad first image we saw of Adrianne Palicki as the superhero — who was demoted to “vigilante” for the new show — that led to a wildfire of ultra-negative criticism (that I may or may not have poured a couple of gallons of fuel on), and even forced producers to change their character’s costume (which looked much better) for filming of the pilot.

So did NBC really learn their lesson, or was the impossible-to-ignore negative criticism too much to move forward with? More importantly, are you upset you won’t get to see Wonder Woman (yet — let’s not rule out someone seeing the pilot and trying to give it a shot themselves), or is this the smartest decision that could have been made?

Oh, and let’s make sure Miss Palicki still gets plenty of post-Wonder Woman gigs. You get the feeling this is for the best, but it would be a shame if her career were to be affected because of it.
