The Movie God   |  @   |

The first trailer and poster for director Craig Gillespie‘s remake of the 1985 horror favorite, Fright Night, has finally been released online.

To great surprise, the movie actually looks very promising. The images that were released not too long ago certainly got people curious, but now that we have a real feel for how the remake was handled, it’s a lot easier to jump on one side or the other.

Personally, a lot of this movie hinges greatly on what rating it will get. Apart from that, color me intrigued. Be sure to click on over to the other side to read a synopsis and check out the brand new trailer and poster for Fright Night. Share your thoughts in the comments below!

SYNOPSIS

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all””he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school (Imogen Poots). In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right””and everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he’s telling the truth, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

  1. As much as I dislike the current remake/reboot trend going around Hollywood these days, THIS one looks pretty good! Given how much different (and improved!) this looks though, perhaps the studio would be better served by distancing this movie from the previous versions? Stop referring to it as a remake and just call it “Fright Night: “? (I have no imagination for better names this early in the morning)

  2. Why not make this a stand alone movie instead of saddling it with the “Remake” label.  They have changed enough stuff to make it a great looking movie and it bears little resemblance to the original “Fright Night”.

Come on Hollywood. Be original. This should have stood on it’s own.

  3. As much as people claim to hate remakes and reboots and all of that, they still make a ton of money. That’s why studios keep making them, and it’s why this will likely make a lot more money than it would have if it were not marketed as a remake.

Though let’s be honest: if they did make this as an “original” and didn’t call it Fright Night, everyone would be slamming it as a Fright Night “ripoff” instead.

I’d rather call my film a remake than have everyone else call it a ripoff.
