Orlando Bloom Confirmed To Return As Legolas In Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’
  |  @   |

Pretty much every actor who portrayed a popular character in director Peter Jackson‘s epic Lord of the Rings trilogy has been rumored to be coming back in one aspect or another for the two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s earlier classic, The Hobbit.

Many of the characters who are said to be returning had absolutely nothing to do with Tolkien’s Hobbit, and were only introduced later on in Rings. Nevertheless, one must understand that in addition to making a strong adaptation of The Hobbit, Jackson also must try and secure the fanbase he had from LOTR“”including those who never read the books from which these movies are made.

And so, Jackson made one of the rumored names official today with the announcement that Orlando Bloom has signed on to reprise his role as the elven archery master, Legolas.

Bloom joins Elijah Wood, set to return as Frodo in a special cameo, and Cate Blanchett as cast member’s whose characters were not in The Hobbit originally.

Faithful fans of Tolkien’s story will likely take a little offense to the usage of characters who weren’t in the book being used in the movies, but again, this is an adaptation and you have to appeal to everyone, not just fans of the book. Being someone who’s never read the books, I can honestly say I’m happy to see these favorite movie characters of mine coming back again. I have full confidence Jackson will use them in a way that makes sense to all, and not just throw them in random scenes just so that they’re involved.

It’s still unclear whether other LOTR stars such as Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler, and Hugo Weaving are officially returning as well.

What are your thoughts on all of these Lord of the Rings characters returning for The Hobbit?
