DC Relaunch: The New Lanterns
  |

Fans of one of the top selling franchises of DC ComicsGreen Lantern can breathe a sigh of relief today, as the comic book publishing company has announced their line of Green Lantern titles that are coming in September, and things seem pretty interesting.

First, we have the no-surprises title, Green Lantern #1. Not much information has been given with the exception of the creative team of Geoff Johns holding up his writing duties with art from Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy, with a cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. The interesting item here is that DC doesn’t give a name for the actual Green Lantern that will be the main focus of the title, but since we’ve seen Hal Jordan on the cover of Justice League #1, I suspect Hal Jordan will be the main man of this title.

Green Lantern Corps #1 – Again, not a real shift here. This is a current comic book series, and it looks like DC is going to keep this series going under the guidance of Peter J. Tomasi on writing, with art duties by Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna. Green Lantern Corps will focus its attention on the galactic willpower of Green Lanterns Guy Gardner and John Stewart, with the aid of an elite strike-force team of space-cops.

Green Lantern: The New Guardians #1 – Here’s where it gets interesting, Tony Bedard as writer, Tyler Kirkham and Batt as artists, are taking a new outlook on the Guardians of the Universe. In the early days of the Brightest Day maxi-series, it looked like Geoff Johns was going to pull the trigger on replacing the Guardians of OA with the team of one representative from each one of the lantern corps of emotion spectrum. Rage, Avarice, Fear, Will, Hope, Compassion, and Love were all to be represented, and it finally appears that this is going to be the case. One more interesting note on this… The Green Lantern of this series will be Kyle Rayner.

And finally something that we’ve known about since January, the Red Lanterns will be getting their own series. Headed by writer Peter Milligan and artists Ed Benes and Rob Hunter, Red Lantern Corps #1 will focus on the rage-driven lanterns led by fan favorite character Atrocitus. This lantern corps is the first to get their own solo ongoing title outside of events and the main Green Lantern Corps, and the reason for that is that fans love them. They’re an exciting group of characters, and under the guidance of this creative team, it’s sure to be a success.

The two new titles are really exciting to me, but what about you? Are you happy to see that Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps are coming back, seemingly unaffected? What about the additions of the Red Lanterns and The New Guardians? Let us know in the comment section here below!
