Tom Hanks’ Playtone Developing Six Seasons Of Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’ For HBO
  |  @   |

Back in April it was reported that a new series based on Neil Gaiman‘s hit novel, American Gods, was being developed for HBO. At the time it was unclear whether it would ever actually happen or how exactly they would go about bringing it to the small screen, but it looks like big plans are in the works for the project.

New reports reveal that Tom Hanks and his Playtone Productions are now developing what’s being described as an “open-ended” series for HBO, with six seasons being set up already. Each season will run 10–12 episodes””each of which will run around an hour in length””and will cost about $35-40 millions per season. Hanks will act as an executive producer along with Gary Goetzman, Bob Richardson, and Gaiman, who will also act as a writer on the series.

This is an interesting move because while fans of the book are intrigued by a series about Gaiman’s book, it was hard to figure out how they would make more than one or two seasons out of it, let alone six with the possibility of more. Gaiman himself touched on this via Twitter by sharing that “No, 6 years of AMERICAN GODS on TV doesn’t mean just the 1st book. It means I need to write the 2nd now, for a start.”

It’s assumed that this could mean many more novels from Gaiman based in this world to keep the series running. And so long as he’s involved in making sure the show is up to the same level as his first book, we have no reason to be anything but excited for American Gods.

There’s still a long road ahead for this project, but at the moment it’s hoped that the first season could be ready to debut at some point in 2013 at the earliest.

  1. This news is wonderful! “American Gods” was a great book and I have no doubt that Tom Hanks and HBO will do wonders in creating a quality adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s work! Any chance of a “Neverwhere” adaptation? Think that’d be icing on the cake…

  2. I also loved Neverwhere. Have you seen the English version. It ran on the BBC for a while.

  3. Unfortunately, no! Admittedly, I wasn’t aware of ANY version of Neverwhere, much less a BBC production. Will have to track it down now!

  4. Hope they do it justice

  5. Neil Gaiman is underwriting Scientology. Not only is Gaiman listed
in Scientology’s Cornerstone Newsletter along with Mary Gaiman, (contributing
$35,000.00 in 2009), Gaiman gave half a million In 2010 to the Scientology
Super Powers Center. Mary Gaiman was awarded the “Gold Humanitarian
Award” for her contribution of $500,000.00 to Scientology. This
contribution was made by The Blank Corporation, Gaiman’s company which he owns
with Mary. The Blank Corp is Gaiman’s Scientology front and how he pays the
cult. The Gaiman Family are listed as Silver Meritorious for that year in
Scientology’s own magazines (Impact 123). These listings mean that Gaiman can
reincarnate into another Scientology family, according to the Cult’s bogus
    teachings.

Gaiman will never leave the cult because he is the vitamin heir of
Scientology and a spineless weakling. The Gaiman family owns G&G Vitamins
which reaps 6 million a year from selling The Purification Rundown Vitamins and
Gaiman’s two sisters, Claire Edwards and Lizzie Calciole are not just
high-ranking Scientologists, they are the Head of Recruiting and the Head of
Wealden House ( the Scientology stronghold in East Grinstead where Gaiman was
an Auditor). These two high-ranking Scientologists cannot associate with Neil
unless he is in good standing.

There is a clear money trail leading to Gaiman. All documents are
    available on Wiki.
