Legendary Pictures Bringing ‘Mass Effect’ Movie To Comic–Con
  |  @   |

We all know how bad movies based on games tend to be (and vice versa), but there are some games out there that, if done correctly, could make some pretty fantastic movies.

One of the big ones that jumps to mind is the Mass Effect trilogy. One of the biggest game series to-date, the BioWare property takes the action–RPG to incredible places, making for an intense and compelling story and a truly must–play experience for any gamer out there.

A Mass Effect movie has been whispered about for a while now, dating back to around when Mass Effect 2 was being released where Casey Hudson was quoted saying “Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect. The most important thing for us is, we don’t just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it’s going to get done at all.” That was followed by the news that Legendary Pictures had secured the rights to turn the game into a movie, but that was the last we heard about it…until now.

In a press release sent out by the studio (via /Film), Legendary announced that they would be bringing Mass Effect to the 2011 Comic–Con convention. Hudson will be in attendance, as well as screenwriter Mark Protosevich (who was just in the news for his work on the proposed Oldboy remake).

It’s all but guaranteed that nothing from an actual movie will be shown off at Comic–Con, however””Mass Effect 3 is set to arrive in early 2012 but the movie adaptation is still in development stages. Perhaps some concept art will be presented, but it’s safe to assume this will be all about discussions: where they want to go with the movie, where things stand, and what we the anxious fans can expect.

Still, this is a hell of a lot further than the long–rumored Halo movie ever got, so if you’re excited about the thought of a Mass Effect movie, Comic–Con just got a little bit more intriguing.

On top of all of that, Legendary also announced some other movies that will be making appearances at Comic–Con this year, as well.

Director Guillermo del Toro (always a top highlight at the Con) will be there to talk his giant new monster movie, Pacific Rim, along with stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi.

Also, Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, and director Sergei Bodrov will be there for their new movie, Seventh Son, and possible new Crow Bradley Cooper and director Alex Proyas are set to talk about their film, Paradise Lost.
