The Torchwood TARDISblend 30: The New World
  |

The TARDISblend returns for the premiere of the first episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day, where the world is facing perhaps its most unusual threat ever: global human immortality. Without explanation, dying ceases to occur among humans on Planet Earth, causing everyone to be immortal – threatening global peace, access to resources, and additional population explosion problems.

When the Miracle Day begins, the CIA is tipped off to a single word: Torchwood – bringing forth a sequence of events that reunite Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) to investigate the cause of the miracle. Along the way, they meet Rex Matheson (Mekhi Pfifer) and Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins), in which it seems inevitable that Torchwood is destined for resurrection…

During TARDISblend 30, we review the events of The New World, the beginning of the 4th series of Torchwood, this time crossing the globe from the UK and into the United States. We discuss what the events of Miracle Day hold for our main hero, Captain Jack Harkness, in a twist that the character will find quite challenging.

Additionally, we look into one of the more horror-esque sequences and scenes in this first episode, something that would very much fit into a Romero, Raimi, or Argento flick. Bill Pullman‘s role as Oswald Danes also brings a chilling, creepy factor to the show, leaving us to question what direction his role will take in upcoming episodes.

We take a look at the preview for the next episode, Renditions, and finally we make some Torchwood UK and Doctor Who recommendations for new viewers to Miracle Day. Also, as we close, we discuss the news of Netflix account changes and how this may impact Doctor Who fans who use the service to check out the Classic Series… All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a mini podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures of Doctor Who – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. Not to be mean…but is someone smacking their lips or eating something?.It spikes the audio and is very distracting.
