The Torchwood TARDISblend 32: The Categories Of Life

Torchwood: Miracle Day continues, as we find the governments of the world re-categorizing life. Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) returns home to Wales to investigate the segregation of the ill and the injured into Overflow Camps, while the rest of Torchwood is joined by Doctor Vera Juarez (Arlene Tur) to investigate the American camps, under the guidance of Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman).

During TARDISblend 32, we review the events of The Categories Of Life, in which we drill down into many criticisms we have of the episode in addition to the series as a whole. We comment on Gwen’s return to and mission in Wales, and discuss the pivotal moments for the character of Vera Juarez during the episode.

Performances seemed a little off this time around, and even Bill Pullman wasn’t up to his usual best. We also look at some past Torchwood episodes, and make some new recommendations for some of the new fans out there.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a mini podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures of Doctor Who – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. Hi Greg, Tom,
TransmatTrev here. Hey guys, a big thanks for the mention on your recent podcast. How brilliant. Further to our recent email, Auntie Beeb are very protective about their output. I do understand that Torchwood has very strong links with its parent series DW and therefore kids will be interested to see what the Captain is up to after the 9.00pm watershed. But surely this should be viewed with the digression of the parents and for those of us who “don’t mind” a bit of man on man action, (Titter ye not Greg, you owned up on-air that you “may” consider turning for Captain Harkness) these gay sequences should be accessable. Really, in this day and age it’s a nonsense. I therefore suggest for the UK, a 9pm slot with the offending footage cut and a 11pm repeat in all of its glory. The irony is, there are soooo many gay references in Doctor Who……but we don’t do it. Cos we’re British!!! ;)
By the way, I made up that Tennant/Olympic story ;) but if enough folk demand it, well who knows. So keep the myth going…. ;) Yeah and please don’t loose faith in TW just yet. Surely RTD has got something up his sleeve. Stay cool.
More news from the UK soon. TT

  2. I agree wholeheartedly with all of your sentiments about this show so far.  I always allow for illogical things in my sci-fi or favorite shows.  But come on, the flight time from LA to Wales is quite long, and oh yes, you’re wanted by several governments so you know travel would be an issue.

I will finish this series only because I have just 3 episodes left; just watched episode 6 The Middlemen.  But I am done with it after this.  It breaks my heart to say that too.  I LOVED this series, but sorry RTD, you’ve done broke it!

btw, could they put any more make-up on Barrowman?  He is not looking like his usual hot self!

Another great podcast as always guys :)

  3. Great podcast gents. Just the sort of thing I’d love to guest on, in fact, so if you’d like a British voice on, lemme know!
