Watch Now: New Trailer For ‘Immortals’

The latest trailer for Immortals, the upcoming 3D epic adventure from director Tarsem Singh (The Fall), has just been released for viewing on MSN Movies, Zune, and Xbox Live. You can check it out below this article.

The film follows a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) who is chosen by the Greek gods to battle the power-mad warrior king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) when he declares war on humanity. Hyperion has assembled a massive army and is on a quest to find the Epirus Bow, a weapon of astounding power created by the gods that can unleash the Titans from their imprisonment in Mount Tartaros. If Hyperion takes possession of the Bow he can destroy the gods and dominate the world. Because the gods are forbidden by ancient law to intervene, only Theseus can defeat Hyperion and save his people from death and enslavement.

The trailer boasts that the movie comes to us courtesy of “the producers of 300“, and there is definitely a strong resemblance to the 2007 Zack Snyder action epic, not to mention last year’s much-derided Clash of the Titans remake. But Tarsem Singh seems to prefer letting the action flow naturally rather than rely on the “speed ramping” technique that Snyder has been criticized for utilizing a little too much in the past. Most of the cast appear to be playing their roles dead straight, which is best for the material, but Rourke looks ready to go all Bruce the Shark on the scenery like he’s getting paid by the chew (which he probably is).

All in all, Immortals is coming off as a whacked-out fan tribute to outrageous sword-and-sorcery B-flicks from the 1980s with a lot of money and green-screen work thrown at it. This will be Henry Cavill’s first and most likely only chance to show audiences if he’s got the proper action chops to wear the shield of the Man of Steel.

Immortals also stars Freida Pinto (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans), John Hurt (V for Vendetta), Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), and Stephen Dorff (Blade). The screenplay was written by first-time writers Charley and Vlad Parlapanides.
