The Doctor Who TARDISblend 35: Let’s Kill Hitler
  |

Doctor Who is back, and the Time Lord (Matt Smith) returns to Earth following an unconventional summons from companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) to find out his progress in locating their daughter. However, the reunion soon goes awry, as their childhood friend Mels (Nina Toussaint-White) hijacks the heroes and the TARDIS by gunpoint.

What follows is an unusual adventure that takes them to Nazi Germany in 1938, sets them face-to-face with Adolf Hitler (Albert Welling) and reunites them with River Song (Alex Kingston)

During TARDISblend 35, we review the events of Let’s Kill Hitler, and also look at Amy’s and Rory’s childhood relationship with the “new” character of Mels, and how it developed as they grew to adulthood. We discuss Hitler’s brief cameo and writer Steven Moffat‘s allusions and metaphors used in this episode about the character as well.

Additionally, Ella Kenion from The Catherine Tate Show was in this episode as Harriet, which was a nice little tie-in to a former companion’s old title comedy show. Steven Moffat also cheekily threw in a tribute/homage to a previous work of his in this episode, hearkening back to Rowan Atkinson‘s short time as the Doctor in the comedic special called The Curse Of The Fatal Death – we have included a link to this wonderful show in the links below so you can check it out.

Meanwhile, River Song learns about life as a “child of the TARDIS,” and we discuss what the vague explanation of The Silents/The Silence in this episode could all amount to. We preview the next episode, titled Night Terrors and written by Mark Gatiss, and take a look at a Classic Doctor Who adventure featuring the Cybermen called Earthshock.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  2. The TARDIS waredrobe is vast. (see 10th regeneration christmas),
And I’m sure, the Doctor must have an array of evening dress.
Rowan Atkinson, what about the FAB Joanna Lumley???
I get the “check list” thing, but we’ve only got 5 eps left…….. the series has to move forward. Anyway, we’d all waited long enough for the River punchline.
Next big question, how does the Doctor get “not dead?” Oh no, no 50th celebrations. Boohoo :(
    Stetson/Fez, difficult one?
My thoughts on “Lets kill Hitler”. Keep ’em coming….boar in manure ;)
    All the best guys……

  3. Re: Night Terrors. The best bit was the nasty landlord dissappearing into the carpet. What a great effect. Strangely enough, the very same thing happened to me in the 70’s with some bad LSGeeee! ;(
