Christopher Lloyd Returns As Doc Brown For Argentinian Electronics Store Commercial

Christopher Lloyd has decided to reprise his greatest role as an actor in one of the most unusual of all venues. Reverend Jim from Taxi? No. Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Try again. That exposition-spouting weirdo from Piranha 3D? Three strikes and YER OUT!!!!

No, Lloyd has returned to his role as Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown from the immortal Back to the Future trilogy, but this time he won’t be joined on his adventure by Michael J. Fox. He’s not even doing this for a movie. Lloyd is playing the good yet kooky scientist and inventor of the flux capacitor (which makes time travel possible, naturally) in a new commercial for Garbarino’s, an electronics store chain in Argentina. You can watch the full commercial here below.

The commercial follows Doc through one of Garbarino’s stores as he admires all their wonderful projects while reminiscing on his own attempts to create notebook PCs and smartphones (with predictably amusing results). The famous DeLorean makes an appearance at the end and Back to the Future fans will recognize the giant stereo speaker Marty McFly gets an earful of at the beginning of the first film.

Fans of the Back to the Future trilogy have been mostly up in arms ever since the a snippet of the 75-second spot hit the web this week, but I don’t see a problem with it. Lloyd’s always a delight playing Doc Brown so any chance I get to watch the man do his thing in that awesome crazy white wig (Lloyd based the look of his character on composer Leopold Stokowski) I will take in a heartbeat. The commercial doesn’t smack of the sheer ghoulish nature of digitally inserting Gene Kelly into a vacuum ad. Besides, at least they actually got Lloyd to play the part. Lord knows that man needs to work.
