J.J. Abrams Officially On Board For ‘Star Trek 2’
  |

Well, it’s about damn time.

After months and months of speculation, director J.J. Abrams is now officially on board to helm the sequel to his hugely popular franchise restarter, Star Trek, according to Vulture.

Star Trek 2 is reportedly already underway in the pre-production, with a script set to be handed in by the end of the month, finally getting in front of cameras come winter of this year.

Now, the film’s been in the works for a while now, but has never really been set in stone, until it was announced that a June 2012 release was impending, which, sadly, was taken back, and then handed over to the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel. However, as a fan of the original film (despite how forgettable I may or may not feel some of the film’s set pieces are), I couldn’t be happier to wait this long. The team behind the first film was given enough leeway and time to truly make a special film, and here’s to hoping the same will be said for its subsequent sequel. Hell, it’s just nice to see this thing actually start heading towards the big screen.

What do you think?
