The Torchwood TARDISblend 38: The Blood Line
  |

<

The conclusion to Torchwood: Miracle Day has arrived, and finds the Torchwood team split into two groups – one heading to Shanghai, the other to Buenos Aires. They are tracking down the Triangle Families, and what they discover will lead them to the enigmatic Blessing.

Determined to remove their unethical hold on a newfound power, Torchwood makes their move against the Families – but the mission may cost them their lives this time, and for Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), the cost may very well be in blood.

During TARDISblend 38, we review the events of The Blood Line, and examine the outcome of Miracle Day for the Torchwood team, particularly the impact on Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer). We look into many unanswered elements of the series, including the mysterious Blessing, and how it may tie in to certain creatures below the surface of the Earth encountered in Doctor Who.

We also ask, “What is The Blessing?” and ponder its significance on a possible fifth series of Torchwood. We deconstruct the Triangle Families, and their goals set forth for Phase Two/Plan B, and how that may impact the next season. Finally we throw in a few Classic Torchwood UK recommendations for new fans to check out.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. This season was so disappointing that part of me wishes that the show would die a merciful death.

But if it doesn’t, here are my 5 wishes for any future series:

  2. Tom I agree with you 100%.

As for Mekhi Phifer, he is much better than this.  His last few seasons on ER were fantastic.  And Esther getting killed was just awful.  Her I disliked in the beginning but came to love her and then poof!  She’s dead.

Yes, Moffet is wiping the floor and walls with Doctor Who and I would LOVE to see him do Torchwood, but I think his plate is a bit full.  Oh well.

I started this season with high hopes only to have them dashed week in and week out.  I can be very forgiving of bad tv, but when I feel like I have been taken advantage of or disrespected I’m done.  Maybe a better way to put it is I feel offended that this is what was offered to me as a Torchwood series.Too harsh?  Maybe, but as of right now, I would not watch another season of Torchwood.  Sorry.

As always enjoyed the podcast and your thoughts.  Make my work day fly by :)

  5. Fast Forward 5 years…………timey-wimey.
Hopefully we’ll look back and realise it was all part of a bigger, better (written) plot???
But on saying that, you can keep your Venice Beaches and shiney winey big US city filming locations, but I felt that part of Torchwood’s charm was the murky back streets  of Cardiff, in the dark and pissing rain.
I also think RTD should have left this story where it was originally. Donna’s “Turn Left” episode, up north, grim, looming big bro plot. But this felt like a trans-atlantic version of that very episode (with a peedo!).
But YES! I will watch further seasons (if hopefully, commissioned) as I am a total WhoHead. We dont give up that easily. (See some of the dire earlier years of Doctor Who). But A WHOVIAN DOESN’T GIVE UP. Well, not here in the UK.
Whoops! looks like we’ve lost our US audience already, after one US/UK collaberation.
    Shucks!
    Stay well…….
    TT
