The Marvel Studios summer blockbuster Thor has been out on DVD and Blu-ray for more than a week and now Marvel has released a deleted scene that was included in the bonus features. You can watch the scene here below.
There’s nothing particularly mind-blowing about this scene, but it doesn’t need to be. We get an extra moment to hang out with the God of Thunder’s trusted allies Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three – Fandral (Josh Dallas), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) – hanging out in the Asgardian throne room before Thor’s coronation that occurs at the beginning of the movie and gets delayed by an attack by the Frost Giants.
I kind of wish this scene had been left in the movie in some form, even if it was truncated. I loved the banter and the camaraderie between these characters, especially the jovial Volstagg, but the deletion is understandable since it would have interrupted the flow of the scenes between the young Thor and Loki competing for their father Odin’s affections and the ceremony for Thor’s coronation as king of Asgard (which obviously doesn’t happen for reasons mentioned in the previous paragraph). Still, it’s a nice scene.
