In Decemmber, Dynamite Entertainment will be bringing the story and characters from the classic animated series Voltron to comic book stores nationwide. I’m fairly certain that all of those reading this site already know what Voltron is and are already heading down to their shops to put in pre-orders.
But, just in case you don’t know, Voltron was an animated series from the 1980s about a group of people who had different animal-themed robots that combined to make a super robot with an awesome sword. The series was one of the first anime-style cartoons that made its way to the United States, and due to its uniqueness, and awesomeness, the show was a hit with the youth. Hugely popular in its time, Voltron spawned several licenses including hot selling toys and games. Nostalgic geeks from the 80s have been clamoring for a movie or anything related to this series for a long time now, and it pleases me, personally, to see this news come to light.
The new Voltron comic will be scripted by Dynamite’s rising star Brandon Thomas and will showcase the undoubtedly beautiful covers of go-to-awesome-painter Alex Ross. The comic will be released in December, so if you want to make sure you’re able to get this comic, pre-order it. Seriously. Comic shops put in orders for books two months in advance, so make sure you contact you’re local comic shop, or check out TFAW within the next couple of weeks to get yourself a copy.
Dynamite has been doing a wonderful job recently with TV resurrections and licenses including The Green Hornet, The Bionic Man, and the highly anticipated (by me) Dark Shadows comic adaptations, so hopefully this comic will be fantastic. Even if it’s not the best comic on shelves, you’re lying if you try to tell me you don’t like seeing a giant robot punch things and hit other things with a giant radical sword.
