‘Red Dawn’ Remake To Get 2012 Release Through FilmDistrict

Better late than never, I guess.

After what seems like years and years of waiting in release purgatory, the long gestating remake of the, for some reason, beloved film Red Dawn, has found a brand new distributor to finally bring it to the public.

With a digitally assisted move from Chinese to Korean baddies, the film has been the focus of more than its fair share of controversy, and itself was addled by it, thanks to a long standing bankruptcy battle involving the original studio, MGM. Now, according to the LA Times, the film will be released thanks to FilmDistrict in 2012, nearly three years after the film was originally slated to make its mark.

Personally, as mentioned above, I have absolutely no appreciation or nostalgia for the first film, and with the digital alteration of the film’s baddies in the back of this writer’s mind, it is going to be one hell of a hill for the film to climb to being something worth watching. The film itself is a $60 million film with its fair share of baggage, so it’s going to be really interesting to see how this sucker performs.

What do you think?
