Watch William Shatner Sing ‘Iron Man’ For His New Album ‘Seeking Major Tom’

We first reported back in February that iconic actor William Shatner was hard at work on his next album titled Seeking Major Tom (read about it HERE).

The album will be a conceptual recording in the form of a collection of 18 covers of classic rock anthems. Recently the Shat released a video of him laying down the final vocals for his cover of the classic Black Sabbath tune “Iron Man” and you can watch that video here below.

The video runs less than two minutes and shows Shatner laying down his vocals and then hearing the playback. I’m a fan of Shatner’s music; his last album Has Been is endlessly listenable and one of my personal favorites of the past decade. The actor has always taken guff from his detractors for continuing to make music despite his lack of singing ability, but if you listen to Shatner’s music he rarely ever tries to actually sing. The man excels at using his theatrical acting style to great effect in the spoken word performances that have helped keep his career thriving over the years. Most would see his recording of a metal covers album as a pathetic stunt to stay relevant on the level of Pat Boone, who did something similar more than a decade ago and continues to be mocked for it to this day. Shatner took the right approach by working with metal gods like Brian May of Queen and Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society. Besides, if there’s a celebrity out there whose vocal stylings go perfectly with heavy metal it’s William Shatner.

Seeking Major Tom will be available on CD, MP3 Download, and vinyl on October 11, 2011.
