Visionary Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs Dies At Age 56
  |  @   |

At the end of August, many were stunned when it was revealed that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was stepping down as CEO, and that Tim Cook would be taking his place. It wasn’t the first time that Jobs had stepped away, and many feared the worst given that he had battled numerous health problems, including pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant.

Now those fears have become a reality, as Apple has announced via a short statement on their website that Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56.

The statement read:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

Jobs is responsible for or part of some of the best inventions and revolutionary technologies of our time, including the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. He is listed as an inventor or co–inventor on 338 patents or patent applications.

When he stepped away from the company, he released a short statement saying “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

And though many did fear the worst, no one expected him to be gone so soon.

  1. A real genius. A real hero. He inspired me (and millions of others) in countless ways. There will never be another Steve Jobs. Rest in Peace, brother.
