DC Comics showcased some really cool artwork and information for the upcoming Lee Bermejo scripted and drawn Batman: Noel that is scheduled to come out later this Fall.
If you’re unaware of what it is that I’m talking about, Lee Bermejo, artist on the insanely beautiful Brian Azzarello-penned Joker graphic novel, will be taking his artistic prowess and expanding on it by branching out into the writing field on his own Batman-centric original graphic novel entitled Batman: Noel. And I’ve gotta give it to Bermejo on this one, not only does the preview art that DC released look really pretty, the concept for the story sounds awesome.
Basically, Noel is Batman meets A Christmas Carol, which is arguably the greatest Christmas story ever told. In this graphic novel, Batman must face villains from his past, present, and future. Man, I can’t tell you how incredibly nerdingly happy that makes me feel. Even though we’ve seen comics like this before, notably contained within the pages of the Halloween-themed Haunted Knight from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, as well as countless stories in anthology books, it’s still pretty freaking awesome. Batman plus Christmas equals amazing.
If you want to see some of the awesome art from the books, head over to DC’s The Source Blog to see the preview pages. Batman: Noel is scheduled for a November 2, 2011 release date.
Even if the writing isn’t that great I’m still picking it up for the artwork and to read before each X-Mas. Some people read Dickens or watch A Christmas Story, I want to start a tradition of reading Batman kick ass on X-Mas every year.
