Infestation 2

IDW Publishing will be bringing back their Infestation series, with the aptly named Infestation 2. The first Infestation dealt with a zombie invasion attacking some of IDW’s most popular licensed properties such as GI Joe, Transformers, Ghostbusters, and Star Trek. This time around, it’s not zombies, it’s Lovecraftian “Old Ones” gods attacking from across time and space.

The Infestation starts in January with Infestation 2 #1, written by Duane Swierczynski (Moon Knight) with art by David Messina (Infestation: Outbreak). From there, the story continues in February in Infestation 2: Transformers #1 and #2, written by Chuck Dixon, with art by Guido Guidi. Infestation 2: Dungeons & Dragons: Eberron #1 and #2 are also out in February, and will bring a new campaign setting to IDW’s D&D books. Those issues will by written by D&D novelist Paul Krill.

The last February book will be Infestation 2: Team-Up. Infestation Team-Up, which includes a meeting between Bat Boy (from Weekly World News) and Archibald the alien (from Groom Lake). Team-Up is written by IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and will be illustrated by Weekly World News artist Alan Robinson. Team-Up features covers by The Goon‘s Eric Powell and Bill Morrison (The Simpsons).

In March, we get Infestation in the pages of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and GI Joe with Infestation 2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 and #2, written by Tristan Jones, art by Mike Torres. Infestation 2: GI Joe #1 and #2 is written by Mike Raicht, with art by Valentine de Landro.

Infestation 2 #1Finally, April will see the release of Infestation 2: 30 Days of Night, and then the story wraps up in Infestation 2 #2. Infestation 2: 30 Days of Night is written by Swierczynski, with art by Stuart Sayger and will look at how the Lovecraft demons affect vampires. Then Infestation 2 #2 brings the Swierczynski and Messina team back together to bring the series to a close. Each issue of Infestation 2 will have a connected cover drawn by Livio Ramondelli, as well as special incentive temporary tattoos.

In a statement released by IDW, Ryall said this about the series: “Last year, we were just figuring out how to do a monstrous event for the first time. This year, we’re going to build on the monstrous part, both in terms of story, titles affected and the threat itself. So people can expect a bigger event here, with lots of legs. Well, tentacles, anyway. We’ve got great creators and a very exciting plan to give people more of what they liked the first time, with some crazy twists and new properties affected, too.”

The first Infestation was a pretty cool event, bringing zombies into titles that you wouldn’t normally expect to see them in. The sequel sounds like it is looking to recapture that idea, but change it just enough to feel fresh. Hopefully they do as good a job with this one as they did on the first.
