In the film world, you always have winners, and then losers.
On the winning front, Variety is reporting that Troy Garity, an actor best known for his turns in films like Barbershop and Sunshine, who happens to be the son of Jane Fonda, has joined the cast of the upcoming WB film, Gangster Squad.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer and staring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Mereille Enos, and Giovanni Ribisi, the film is one of WB’s most anticipated projects, and have given it a prime slot, bowing on October 19 of next year. Personally, I absolutely love this casting, as Garity is a name that we really don’t hear enough of. He’s a fine actor with pedigree to boot, so hopefully this addition will make his career.
On the subtraction side, JustJared is reporting that James Franco has left his upcoming film The Iceman, leaving the film’s future very much in doubt. The film was set to star Franco, Michael Shannon, and Benicio del Toro, and was a real life tale following the story of one of history’s most notorious hit men. The future of the project, as mentioned above, is truly in doubt, but with Franco’s exit, I personally find the project a bit more interesting. Outside of a couple of performances, Franco hasn’t made the biggest of impacts cinematically, leaving this rather meaty role open for some really intriguing chances.
