What I really like about Snake Eyes #6 is that it showed a different side of the Cobra Civil War storyline. There’s plenty of Joes and Cobras to go around, so it’s nice to get a little glimpse on what the coolest member of the GI Joe team is up to while the rest of the team is scrambling to hold their own and the forces of Cobra are launching all out war on the Joes.

What I liked most about this issue was the constant action. In the whole book there’s maybe one whole page of “talking heads” and that’s it. And that’s the way a Snake Eyes comic should be.

I have to say, honestly, I’m really looking forward to when Cobra Civil War is done and the title can move on into different adventures for the worlds greatest silent ninja. I’m dying to see him out on his own on special missions, or trying to sneak into a Cobra base to rescue a fellow Joe or some flashback issues dealing with his past. I think that is when this title is really going to find it’s footing.

It’s really hard to follow Robert Atkins on Snake Eyes. There’s some artists that you just associate with characters. Like John Byrne and Superman, Frank Miller and Batman, Steve Ditko or John Romita and Spider-Man. So, while Casey Malony is a great artist in his own right, he’s no Robert Atkins. That said, he does a perfectly capable job on handling the art duties. He’s got a nice style and I think the longer he’s on the book, the more he’ll grow on the audience.

I have to admit, like issue #5, Snake Eyes #6 was a bit of a let down. And it’s pretty much for the same reasons. Not enough Snake Eyes kicking butt and doing awesome ninja things. If Chuck Dixon can turn that dial up just a little bit more, this book will go from good to great.
