Another day, another Mark Millar project moves forward. Say what you will about the guy, but he’s definitely beloved amongst Hollywood producers.
THR is reporting that the Millar and Tony Harris book War Heroes has been picked up by Universal, with the team of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer aboard to script the picture.
Donnelly and Oppenheimer are best known for having been hired to pen the upcoming Doctor Strange film for Marvel, and will write an adaptation following the story of “a U.S. military experimental program developed in light of dwindling enlistments and the expanding war on terrorism that gives ordinary soldiers superpowers. When a rogue group of the super-soldiers breaks off to form a criminal enterprise, one hero rises from their ranks to prevent catastrophic results.”
Now, while Millar is indeed a popular name amongst producers or comic readers, the film adaptations of his work have been far from rewarding. The creative team here does appear to be quite talented, and I think the premise will allow for some really great action. Here’s to hoping anyways.
