Ridley Scott’s New ‘Blade Runner’ Movie May Be a Sequel To The Original
  |

Back in August we brought you the news that a new Blade Runner movie was in the works at Alcon Entertainment and that original director Ridley Scott, currently in post-production on his Alien prequel Prometheus, would be the guiding force behind this latest journey into a dark and perpetually rainy future. Then it was reported that under Scott’s direction the new film will likely be a complete departure from the original Blade Runner.

But in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Scott revealed that his Blade Runner movie is “liable to be a sequel.”

Even though the film’s release is still a few years away the development is starting to pick up speed. “I think I’m close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver,” the 74-year-old Scott said, “we’re quite a long way in, actually.”

But anyone hoping for some of the original Blade Runner‘s iconic characters to return will be disappointed as the director said the new film will be made but “not with the past cast, of course.” What about the possible return of Harrison Ford as android-hunter extraordinaire Rick Deckard? “No, not really.” Andrew Kosove, a producer on the film, confirmed this news when he said, “This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.”

Scott is looking to start production on the new Blade Runner, be it a prequel or sequel or companion piece or whatever, in 2013 for release sometime in 2014.
