Free ‘Total Recall’ MMO Promises Console Graphics, Fully Browser-Based Gameplay
  |  @   |

In what can be considered to be quite the ambitious project, SEE Games has announced that they have partnered with Chinese online gaming company ZQGame to create a new MMO based on Columbia Pictures’ upcoming Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell.

Th ambitious part comes in the promise that the MMO (massively multiplayer online) game will be free-to-play, and that it will be made on a specially designed engine allowing for a full-on 3D browser-based experience that’s able to present console-level graphics, characters, and environments with NO need for a client download.

Total Recall will mix MMO and social gaming elements, including player vs. player and player vs. environment gameplay.

President of SEE Games, Corey Redmond, spoke on the announcement, saying:

SEE Games’ entertainment experience matched with ZQGame’s innovative development technology and artistry will enhance the overall experience of the game. Total Recall is an action-filled sci-fi property that expands perfectly as a deep and immersive browser-based game experience.

Sony Pictures Consumer Products vice president Mark Caplan went on:

Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game. With SEE Games and ZQGame’s expertise, Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience – one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film.

Now the question arises: can they pull off a game as good as they’re aiming for, or will it crash and burn?

  1. It’ll crash and burn.  To put out an MMO that will be competing with Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Guild Wars 2.  Total Recall may be a phenomenon, but that won’t be enough to drive gamers to it.
