Brett Ratner Looking to Remake 1980s Teen Sex Comedy ‘The Last American Virgin’
  |

Brett Ratner hasn’t exactly been having the best of weeks so far: his highly-hyped comedy Tower Heist opened in second place at the box office and he recently stepped down as producer of next year’s Oscar telecast following use of an anti-gay slur at a screening of his movie over the weekend.

Never one to let failure get him down (because if he did he would have fled Hollywood long ago), Ratner has turned his attention to a slew of film projects including a new movie with his Tower Heist star Eddie Murphy, a spy drama entitled Hunting Eichmann, and most tantalizing a remake of the 1982 cult classic teen comedy The Last American Virgin.

Ratner briefly discussed his plans to remake The Last American Virgin during his interview Monday on Howard Stern’s radio show. You can listen to that part of the interview here below.

A remake of the popular Israeli comedy Lemon Popsicle, The Last American Virgin was one of the many lowbrow sex comedies geared towards horny teens to surface in the wake of the success of Porky’s and was an early box office success for the then-struggling Cannon Films. The movie has garnered a cult following in the decades since its release due in part to its hit-laden soundtrack featuring big name such as The Police and The Cars and its occasionally frank portrayal of unrequited love and teenage sexuality, including an abortion scene set to the early U2 hit “I Will Follow.” The movie remains a particular favorite of Hostel director Eli Roth.

Boaz Davidson, the Palestine-born writer and director of Lemon Popsicle, performed similar duties on its American counterpart and would later become a producer at Millennium Films, overseeing such major producers as The Expendables and the 2008 Rambo.

Of the original’s female lead Diane Franklin, Ratner said in the Stern interview, “The girl in that was so beautiful, curly hair, gorgeous eyes, I was twelve years old [and] I think I jerked off to her at least two hundred times.”

No word yet on who will be writing or starring in the remake, or if Ratner will direct it or take a producer role on the film (like he did on the hit summer comedy Horrible Bosses). This movie could actually happen (hey, who won’t fund a remake these days, am I right?) or end up on the pile of the director’s unmade films such as that Hugh Hefner biopic with Robert Downey Jr. We’ll bring you more details on the project as they surface, just as long as Brett keeps the masturbation memories to himself.

Strangely enough, Howard Stern announced several years ago that he would producing a remake of Porky’s, but that never came to fruition.

This is one of my all-time favorite films. Fuck you, Ratner. Leave this one the fuck alone.
