‘Detective Comics #1’ Gets A Fourth Printing

DC Comics announced today that its recently relaunched title Detective Comics by writer/artist Tony Daniel is getting a fourth printing, which makes it the second “New 52” series to get this many reprintings.

So people really like this run of Detective Comics, huh? Well, I’ve gotta say that even though I wasn’t expecting much from the series, I’ve been really impressed thus far. And so if you’ve missed the Tony Daniel-conducted Detective Comics train, you’ll be getting another opportunity to catch it.

The New 52 relaunch from DC has been a success for the company, and copies of the books have been selling out from both stores and printers left and right, but only one other comic has done this well. And that other book is the insanely popular Justice League #1. I haven’t been the biggest supporter of Daniel, but honestly, this book has shown a lot of improvement for the writer part of Daniel. He’s always been a strong artist, but a lot of his previous work left me with a lot to be desired. When he was either writing or drawing, I liked this exponentially more than when he was pulling double duty. And when I was previewing the new DC titles, I was a little wary on him being given the huge responsibility to relaunch the company’s namesake comic, but I was happy to be wrong. Daniel has consistently impressed me with these recent issues. And while it’s not my favorite comic from the DC Relaunch, it is a strong comic.

So, congrats to both Tony Daniel and DC Comics for going this far. According to the people, Daniel in the same league as Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. Hopefully this trend will continue with the rest of the series and it’s not just a collector’s market sweeping up all the comics. But even if it is, credit should be given to the creator of this book and the company behind it because the series is strong, and I highly suggest that interested readers pick this book up if they haven’t already. It’s street level Batman with crazy twists and turns in every issue, so get in on the ground floor with this fourth printing, but make sure to keep going either digitally or physically. I’m pretty sure you’re going to enjoy it.
