SyFy has ordered a script on the DC Comics character Booster Gold, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The projected one-hour drama will feature a pilot script written and executive produced by Fringe veteran Andrew Kreisberg and produced by Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions and Warner Horizon Television. Berlanti will also be an executive producer.
The story promises to be an adaptation of the character that we all know and love from the comics. Booster Gold is a washed up athlete who travels to the past to become the world’s greatest hero. Unfortunately for him though, money and fame aren’t the only things that come with the territory of being a hero.
As is the case with many DC Comics characters, there is loads of potential here, and last year’s “Booster” episode of the hit TV Show Smallville showed audiences what a live-action Booster Gold could be, and became a quick fan favorite episode. Booster Gold is not just fun and games, however. Over the past few years, comic book writers have been developing Booster Gold into one of the most fascinating characters in DC’s arsenal by adding more and more of the plot elements that Booster Gold is a keeper and protector of the timestream. I mean, if there’s a hero from the future, then there has to be a villain. So, when villainous cretins of the coming years have the desire to go back in time for their own personal gain, Booster Gold is there to stop them. So, really there are a lot of things you could do with the show to make it hilarious, dramatic, or action-packed. I mean, the dude gets sponsored by companies to fight crime. He’s awesome.
As you can probably tell, I’d love to see this show actually happen. But honestly, who knows if it will, at this point. There have been loads of recent DC characters optioned for pilots including Deadman, Wonder Woman, and many more, and this just seems like the next in line. I hope it gets picked up, but I’m not counting on it. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
