Introducing The ‘South Park’ RPG From ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ Developer Obsidian Entertainment
  |  @   |

For those of you who have yet to hear, a brand new South Park video game is currently being developed titled South Park: The Game.

Most people will scoff at such news, knowing full well that almost all games based on movies or TV shows or animated series are usually just made to make money off of the property, and are all but guaranteed to suck horribly. But this game…this game is different. Or so it feels.

The thing about this new South Park game is that it’s being developed as an RPG by Obsidian Entertainment. That’s right, Obsidian—born from the team who helped create Fallout 2 and Baldur’s Gate, creators of such titles as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Alpha Protocol, and Fallout: New Vegas, and all-around master RPG craftsmen.

Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart sat down to chat South Park for Game Informer, and though we don’t get to see any actual gameplay, he does talk in great depth about how this project came around, how they’re working directly with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to ensure the best possible final product, and what direction it’s going in.

To see the full video of Urquhart chatting about the game, you can head on over to Game Informer and check it out and share your thoughts below!

For more information, much more will be revealed in the upcoming January issue of the magazine.

  1. Obsidian was born from Interplay, which did NOT develop Baldur’s Gate. They published it, sure, but Bioware had the team that actually created it.

  2. Technically they were born from Black Isle Studios, which was part of Interplay.

But you’re right — they only developed one of the Baldur’s Gate sequels, not the original.

    My mistake.
