Okay, things are officially getting interesting in the world of Ender’s Game.

THR is reporting that Ben Kingsley has joined the film’s cast, and will star opposite his Hugo counterpart Asa Butterfield, as a “legendary war hero presumed to be long dead.” Gavin Hood will direct from a script that he also wrote. Hailee Steinfeld is also connected to the project.

I’ve gotten flack for not having read the novel, but at this point, I’m actually quite excited to see what will come of this movie. The cast is insanely interesting, and the premise does sound like something that could spawn one hell of a fine feature. Hood isn’t the first choice one may have for this piece, but odd directing choice aside, this is shaping up to be one hell of a film. At least one can hope right? If the landing is stuck here, we may be in for something really special.
