Watch This Far Superior Fan Edit Of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Trailer

Earlier this week, the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first of director Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films, was released. To say that fans were excited is an understatement.

But filmmaker Samuel Smith was disappointed with the editing and the style of the trailer, so he reworked it, and in my opinion, his creation is far superior to the official version.

Watch the video here below.

Now, being a great Tolkien fan and lover of Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, I too was excited for this first official extended look at The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. But, I must admit, I felt it was a bit too upbeat for me – though, I do realize that it falls in line with the book, especially the bouncy way of introducing the dwarves. After the epic that is Lord of the Rings, I really want more of that kind of tone and feel for The Hobbit movies and I think Smith’s version is spot-on.

  1. Sorry, but it’s not “far superior.” And The Hobbit is aimed at a younger audience than LOTR, so the lighter tone of the official trailer is just fine.
