Sony Confirms ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Sequels

And here’s the confirmation.

Deadline is now confirming rumors that have been swirling for what seems like weeks now, at least since David Fincher’s take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hit theaters in December, revealing that studio Sony does indeed have plans on bringing the subsequent novels in the Millennium Trilogy to the big screen.

Now, here is where it gets interesting.  The plan, as it currently sits, will see the next two films not only shoot back to back, but the pair are being eyed for a late 2012/early 2013 start date, thus making it tough for the hands on-director that Fincher is, to come back for these two films.  The outlet fails to mention just what the plans are for Fincher, but with his next film, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, set to be just that, the director’s next movie, it appears as though his return seems highly unlikely.

Personally, without Fincher my hopes and expectations are almost non-existent.  I absolutely adored the most recent film, and its primarily due to Fincher’s filmmaking and his sense of aesthetic.  Given the right director, sure, the sequels could work.  However, it doesn’t seem likely.

What do you think?
