Watch Now: ‘Raiders of the Lost Archives’ Explores the Origins of Indiana Jones
  |

It’s no surprise that the Indiana Jones movies borrow liberally from the smashing pulp adventures of the past; after all, George Lucas did co-create the character. StooTV, the creator of the web series The Old Indiana Jones Chronicles, has created Raiders of the Lost Archives, a fascinating video that breaks down the opening sequence of the iconic, globe-trotting archaeologist and adventurer’s inaugural (and still best) silver screen opus Raiders of the Lost Ark into a shot-by-shot comparison to scenes from thirty different adventure films made between 1919 to 1973.

You can watch the entire 13-minute here below.

The film’s influences have been well documented over the years, but one fact that seems to escape even the most ardent fan of Indiana Jones is the acknowledged inspiration on the opening sequence by Uncle Scrooge comics. The spirit of adventure is a hard one to exorcise.
