Ever since I was a kid I have always loved G.I. Joe and when I heard that the comics were coming back, well I just had to start reading them again. It has been a rough time for our band of heroes since they resurfaced back in 2010 and they are just now reeling from the aftermath of the Cobra Civil War. Enter Snake Eyes #9 where we see our beloved heroes in action trying to stop Cobra from controlling a country in Asia known as Nanzhao. We learn that the country is a capital for the drug trade which begs to ask the question “Why is Cobra here?” Two Joe teams are sent in to investigate and take out the threat. I don’t want to go to far into detail, because let’s face it Snake Eyes #9 is just a fun book.

Chuck Dixon is one of the best writers to take over G.I. Joe in a very long time and the way he handles and writes the characters shows respect to writers like Larry Hama. Dixon writes not only serious dialogue, but throws the occasional comic relief out there to make sure that the readers are not overwhelmed by just one theme. I also saw that ever since Dixon has been writing this character, he has stuck to true fashion of not having Snake Eyes speak, which in turn speaks volumes to us fans.

When it comes to the art Alex Cal does a great job of showing us a tired group of heroes that have been through a lot. His scenes just showcasing Snake Eyes fighting are action packed and bring a smile to your face. The scene where Snake Eyes takes out an entire row of tanks is just crazy and over the top and perfect for what this series is about. Cal also does a great job of drawing other Joe heroes like Helix and Iceberg.

I just want to say that this is the most fun I have had reading a comic in a long time and I think Dixon and Cal knock it out of the park again. I give Snake Eyes #9 5 “Yo Joes” out of five.
