A director has been chosen to take on the Police Academy remake being put together by New Line Cinema, which is planned to begin production sometime this year.
It’s being reported that Scott Zabielski has been hired for the job, which will mark his feature film debut. Zabielski has worked as a director and producer on 60+ episodes of the hit Comedy Central show Tosh.0, and has worked on various other reality shows including Breaking Bonaduce, Beauty and the Geek, and Who Wants to Be A Superhero.
Zabielski is said to have beat out numerous other more experienced candidates for the job, and his having personally completed actual police academy training in West Hollywood may have helped give his take on the remake the edge he needed.
The script was written by David Diamond and David Weissman, who co-wrote The Family Man, Evolution, Old Dogs, and When in Rome together, and original Police Academy producer Paul Maslansky returns for the remake.
