A while back, rumor had it that following screenings of his new film, the found footage-ish superhero film, Chronicle, Fox tapped director Josh Trank to be the number one contender for the directorial gig currently up for grabs behind the long talked about Fantastic Four reboot.

Well, according to SuperHeroHype, Trank reveals that that is far from the case.

Knowing nothing of these said rumors, Trank said that “I know as much as you,” making this story quite odd. Personally, while I haven’t seen the film yet, buzz has been crazy good for Chronicle, and the idea of this fresh face in the film world taking on a maligned franchise like this is a really great concept. I think this could breed a really fun film, something that is truly possible given the greatness that is the Fantastic Four. Here’s to hoping Trank is just blowing smoke trying to quell the rumors. Here’s to hoping.
