When it comes to comics relaunches can be hit or miss, but a few years ago when Dynamite Entertainment released their new Green Hornet series I started reading it and instantly fell in love with it. Green Hornet Annual #2 is a great annual one-shot story that not only gets readers caught up on what has been going on, but it’s a great jumping-on point for new readers.

The story starts with Britt Reid aka The Green Hornet sitting in a bar while listening to a local news report about layoffs at the newspaper he owns. While wallowing in his self pity he hears two customers behind him bad mouthing him and the newspaper he inherited from his now dead father who was the Green Hornet before him. During a meeting with the senior staff at “The Daily Sentinel,” we find out about a huge human trafficking ring that is going on in Century City and it’s up to the Green Hornet and Kato to stop it and save the girls.

The story by Mark Rahner is very strong and solid. Rahner really has a good grasp on Britt and Kato and pays tribute to writers like Kevin Smith who originally wrote the first few arcs of this series. Rahner also is great at writing Britt emotionally struggling with his father’s public legacy and secret legacy.

Ronan Cliquet‘s art is great and is very solid. One of my favorite scenes is when we see the Hornet taking out some of the ring leaders of the trafficking ring. It shows how fast on his feet our hero has become and how he is willing to improvise to get his job done.

I really enjoyed this book and I think it is great for an annual and I look forward to reading more.

Overall Rating 5 out of 5.
