‘Short Circuit’ Remake Gets A New Writer
  |

Over the past few years, one remake has seemed to stand above the rest as the perfect example of Hollywood’s creative death.  That would be the long-gestating remake of the cult classic, Short Circuit.

Coming Soon reports that Matt Lieberman will pen a new draft of the film’s screenplay, which will be helmed by Tim Hill.  Dimension Films has the project, and have been touting their success with Spy Kids and that franchise, so we know just what to expect here.

Now, while I’m not at all a fan of the original film, this type of project comes at a weird time, only a few years after a film like Wall-E, and while it’s not a fair comparison truly, one can’t help but have pause for a new kid-friendly robot feature.  I hope this remade can be a success, but the idea of proclaiming your pride of a franchise like Spy Kids as reason why you’ll succeed is proof that this film is probably doomed to fail.

  1. Sometimes I have to wonder why Hollywood’s so intent on rebooting everything right now rather than finding something new to work on.  Short Circuit wasn’t *that* bit a hit that it warrants a remake, IMHO.
